A pair of coloured contact lenses have made an appearance on America's Got Talent – the US version of the show that recently had a run on ITV1.

The contacts – which were blue in colour – belonged to Andrew De Leon.

He was showcasing his talent to Sharon Osbourne, Howie Mandel and Howard Stern, the judges on the show and wore them while singing during the programme's early auditions stage.

Famous past contestants on Britain's Got Talent include doggy duo Ashleigh and Pudsey, singers Ronan Parke and Susan Boyle and dance group Diversity.

"Cosmetic contacts aren't solely fashion or novelty items, many people who wear prescription contacts also choose to wear lenses that enhance or alter their natural eye colour," commented the Eyecare Trust's Dharmesh Patel last year.

He also said, though, that in the United Kingdom, any type of contacts need, by law, to have their fitting as well as their supply "overseen by a registered practitioner".
