Different Types Of Contact Lenses
Corrective vs. cosmetic
contact lenses:
The Contact lens designed
to manipulate the
appearence to the
eye is called cosmetic
contact lenses. Where
as, the contact lenses
contemplated to enhance
the vision of the
eye is called corrective
contact lens. The
functional reasons
will play major role
in many people wearing
corrective contact
lenses, on behalf
of eyeglasses and
these eyeglasses are
also referred to as
cosmetic contact lenses.
Ofcourse there are
people who will wear
cosmetic contact lenses
for functional perks.
Rigid
vs. soft contact lenses:
In 1888, the german
citizen August Muller,
designed the scleral
glass-blown contact
lenses to correct
his own disorder called
myopia. Until 1930's
the Glass-blown scleral
contact lenses are
the only contact lenses.
Later, with the intervention
of polymethyl methacrylate,
the plastic scleral
contact lenses had
been manufactured
for the first time
ever. The soft contact
lens is also called
as the bandage contact
lens and is placed
on an diseased or
injured cornea. This
will help to protect
the cornea from constant
rubbing and blinking
of eyelids and plays
major role in curing
the disease.
Daily vs. extended
wear contact lenses:
The daily wear contact
lenses had been contemplated
in such a way that
they have to be removed
before sleeping where
as, one can wear the
extended contact lenses
during the night time
also, typically for
six or more successive
nights. With the introduction
of silicone hydrogels
material the time
period has been prolonged
from six successive
nights to 30 or more
continuous nights.
Spherical vs. toric
contact lenses:
All meridians of the
contact lenses have
the same power correction
is the foremost advantage
of the Spherical contact
lenses, where as,
for the toric contact
lenses the power correction
varies from one meridian
to other meridian.
People who cannot
able to wear the regular
contact lenses due
to myopic, hypermetropic
and astigmatism can
wear toric contact
lenses.
