Tips While Applying Eye Makeup

For women who use contact lenses, special care has to be given while using makeup. In this section, we deal with this aspect of contact lenses usage.

As a contact lens user, one has to be cautious while choosing makeup and applying it.

Selecting Makeup

Before actually discussing how to use it, let us consider what kind of makeup to buy. There are two important things to be considered while selecting face makeup for contact lens users. These are ingredients and consistency. All makeup should be what is called "hypoallergenic" and should preferably have statement somewhere on the packing that it is safe for contact lens users to wear. The consistency should be such that spreading of loose powder and fibers should be minimized.

General Face Area

If you apply powders like rouge or face powder, avoid using loose powder - pressed powder should be used instead. You can also use a foundation powder cum face powder to reduce the risk of getting particles in the eyes. You can also minimize this by avoiding the areas around the eyes.

Applying Eye Makeup

While applying eye makeup, waterproof mascara or eyeliner should be preferred. During the day the eyes tend to dry out so a few drops of solution may be required to keep the contact lenses lubricated. Waterproof eye makeup will withstand the moisture which results from this.

Using Hair Products

It is a lesser known fact that the hair products can have an adverse effect on the eyes of contact lens users. Especially if you have long hair, it is likely to blow in the eyes in the course of the day. Avoid using sticky or highly perfumed products as the chances of chemical contamination are more. If you must use hair spray, close your eyes during application.

Here a Few Tips For Applying Makeup for Contact Lens Users.

. It is always preferable to apply face makeup before fitting your contact lenses if your eyesight permits doing so.

. If you cannot see properly without your contact lenses, then make sure that you fit them before applying your face makeup to avoid the fingers contaminating the lenses with makeup.

. Always ensure that your selection of face makeup consists of only contact lens-friendly brands. Nowadays most cosmetic companies include this information on the packaging.

. Use water based creams in preference to oil based ones.

. Keep your makeup brushes and applicators clean at all times.

. Use the disposable type of applicators and avoid refilling.

. Do not share your cosmetics with others as there is a high risk of contamination.

. Never apply eye makeup while moving or when you are in a moving vehicle.

. Fiber-free mascara should always be used. Some brands of mascara contain fibers which may cause extreme irritation to the eye.

. Close your eyes while applying hairsprays and any volatile liquids.

. Before going to bed, make sure to remove your contact lenses before removing your makeup.

By following these simple tips, you will be able to use your face makeup comfortably and be assured of full safety at all times.
