Prevent Eye Wrinkles: Tips to Keep Age at Bay
Eye wrinkles: An Insight into the Cause
The skin around the eyes is very sensitive and shows the signs of aging and sagging very fast, maybe faster than other parts of the body. When we look at a person, the first thing that makes a lasting impression is the eyes. It is an intriguing fact that even age also decides to take its first toll around this area.
The most important questions thus arise – the reason of formation of eye wrinkles and the ways to prevent them. Before you just conclude that once the wrinkles have set in, there is no other way out other than Botox or anti-aging wrinkle cream, remember there are proactive measures for keeping your eye wrinkles at bay. There is no need of being fatalistic once your mirror shows you of the early signs of aging!
The prime factors that play a key role in those wrinkles around the eyes are:
- Genes often make one genetically predisposed to wrinkles and sagging skin around the eyes.
- Ultra-violet rays and Pollution
- Allergies that give rise to skin irritation
- Malnutrition, as a poor diet is a primary reason of poor nutrition for the skin
Always Wear Sunglasses
UV rays cause irreparable damage to the skin and play a villainous role in accelerating premature aging. As the skin around your eyes is very sensitive, you should never ignore wearing sunglasses whenever you are out in the sun, not only in summer, but in the winter days as well. If possible, avoid the midday sun from 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. when the rays are the strongest.
Use a Good Facial Moisturizer and Sunscreen
Never leave your skin dry as a healthy moisturizer prevents fine lines from becoming wrinkles by keeping your skin soft and supple. The skin around your eyes is thin and sensitive and missing out on a basic facial moisturizer is thus never a good idea. Also use a good sunscreen about 30 minutes before you go out in the sun. You can use a brimmed hat to shade your face and eyes further.
Do not Squint or Scrunch your Eyes
Squinting or scrunching your eyes frequently causes the skin around to wrinkle fast as the skin in that area becomes used to these movements. Ask yourself whether squinting or scrunching during certain times has become your habit. If the answer is yes, always be conscious to avoid those habits.
Sleep on Your Back
Try to sleep on your back or on your side as sleeping with your face down may cause pulling or rubbing of the facial skin which may initiate fine wrinkles. Change to alternate sides to avoid always putting pressure on the same side.
Use an Anti-wrinkle Eye Cream
Specially formulated eye creams are meat for fighting the fine wrinkles around the eyes. Remember, the skin here is very delicate and prone to dryness. So, the creamier the formulation is, the better. You may find these eye creams a bit expensive, but do not worry – you are indulging in something that is worth every penny. When applying the cream around the eyes, do not rub, scratch, or pull the skin. Massage lightly with your ring finger only applying the least pressure.
Eat a Balanced Diet Daily
Eat balanced meals daily for your daily supply of essential nutrients in the body. If necessary, you should take multi-vitamin and an omega-3 fish oil supplement as they are known to contribute to the firmness of the skin and maintain the moisture content in the cells of the skin. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables and drink lots of water. If you are a vegetarian and cannot eat fish, add kelp - a seaweed rich in omega-3 content - to your diet.
Have Enough Sleep
Believe it or not, sleep is the most rejuvenating tonic for your skin! In simple words, during our sleep, a kind of youth hormone is released by our body that prevents breaking our skin down. Remember the look of your face during the exams or after a wild night out? Well, now you know how sleep pacifies the skin around your eyes and relaxes the facial muscles.
Sleep with a Humidifier On
At least once a week pamper your skin by sleeping with a humidifier on. The humidifier puts enough moisture in the air which in turn moisturizes your skin. The result? A more elastic skin with fewer wrinkles when you wake up!
